How Long Do Dental Crowns Last?
Most dental crowns last 10 to 15 years, though some (typically metal) last 20 years with proper care. Factors such as at-home dental care and lifestyle, as well as issues like bruxism (chronic teeth grinding while sleeping), are key to the longevity of any dental crown.
CEREC same-day crowns don’t have the same track record as their traditional lab-made counterparts. Encouragingly, however, available data show they hold up similarly and, with proper care, can deliver the same comfort and durability.
CEREC Crown Maintenance Tips
Once a dental crown is securely in place, its required care is no different from a natural tooth. To maintain a crown’s smooth surface, use a soft-bristled toothbrush and non-abrasive toothpaste. Also, floss carefully around the crown, trying not to “snap” the floss, but just slide it gently.
Repair vs. Replacement
Unfortunately, sometimes, dental crowns, traditional, same-day, whatever, crack or chip. In cases of very minor damage, repairs may be possible. In more serious cases, however, like significant fractures, refabrication and replacement are required.
