When you're experiencing severe and constant tooth pain, the only thing you want is for it to stop. Sometimes it feels like the easiest way to deal with a painful tooth is to have it removed; however, at Five Parks Dental, our goal is always to help you retain your natural teeth for as long as possible. If you seek treatment quickly when you have a toothache, root canal treatment can often mean the difference between saving and losing a tooth. Here's what you should know.

What Is Root Canal Treatment?

If you're dealing with a severe toothache, your tooth is likely infected. A root canal removes the infected tissue from your tooth, which also alleviates your pain and preserves your natural tooth structure. Here is the root canal process step-by-step:

  • Dr. Jenkins begins by numbing your tooth, which immediately provides pain relief.
  • Next, she'll access the inner canals of your tooth and remove any infected tissue.
  • Then, she'll fill your tooth with permanent material called gutta-percha to prevent further infection.
  • The tooth is then sealed with a temporary filling and allowed to heal.
  • Finally, she'll rebuild your tooth with a permanent filling or dental crown after the healing is completed.

Our goal is to ensure your comfort throughout your root canal procedure. Dr. Jenkins has performed numerous root canals in Arvada, using the finest dental anesthetics to ensure that your tooth is completely numb and you experience no discomfort throughout your procedure. We also offer nitrous oxide, a form of dental sedation that helps patients relax and feel at ease during procedures such as root canal therapy.
