The new year is here, making it an excellent time to recommit to your oral health. Make 2024 the year you resolve to take better care of your teeth and gums.

Your Arvada dentist recommends the following resolutions for a lifetime of optimal oral health.

Resolution #1: Brush and Floss

This year pledge to brush your teeth at least twice daily. If you can do so after meals, all the better! Keeping debris from accumulating on the teeth lowers your cavity and gum disease risks significantly.

Floss your teeth at least once daily — two or three times daily is even better. Flossing works with brushing to lower your risks for most oral health conditions.

Resolution #2: See Your Arvada Dentist Regularly

The American Dental Association and most dentists recommend twice yearly checkups and teeth cleanings to keep your smile health on track. Regular dental visits are also a way to screen for oral cancers.

Through regular checkups and cleanings, your Arvada dentist can diagnose emerging issues, and your hygienist can eliminate the tartar from your teeth to prevent gum disease and tooth decay.

Resolution #3: Adopt a Smile-Friendly Diet

This year, vow to reduce sugary foods and drinks. Substitute with low-fat, calcium-rich snacks like yogurt. Also, try water instead of soda and fruit juice. The sugars and acids in these drinks put your teeth at risk for decay.

Resolution #4: Take Your Smile to the Next Level

If you’ve been contemplating teeth whitening, cosmetic dentistry, or tooth replacement, we encourage you to talk to the Arvada dentist and learn which options are right for you. This can be the year you reclaim your smile aesthetics.
