My jaw is tightened due to teeth grinding. What should I do?

teeth grinding treatment arvada | woman with jaw painTeeth grinding and clenching at night, commonly called bruxism, is a severe issue that can lead to tooth fractures, increased cavities, and even tooth loss. It can also aggravate the temporomandibular joints, leading to dysfunction or TMD. The TMJ joints are located on either side of the jaw and allow for the opening and closing of the mouth.

Without treatment, bruxism can cause severe symptoms, including headaches, neck pain, and shoulder pain. It can also lead to increased musculature in front of the TMJ joints and a stiff, painful jaw.

Your dentist in Arvada, CO, offers treatment.

Bruxism Treatment

Your dentist may recommend specific exercises to relax your jaw or talk to you about splint therapy (nightguard) to rest the jaw during sleep. Suggestions can include medication or temporary use of an ice pack. We also offer BOTOX®.

BOTOX® may significantly relax the muscles or tissues that promote nighttime clenching and jaw tightness. It is an injectable delivered through a small needle right here in our dental office.

Your dentist will measure your symptoms and formulate a plan to address your specific symptoms.
